Advice on Paper Cutter

I am looking for a paper cutter to cut my fabulous pages. I was thinking about getting a rotary paper cutter, but I am totally new to this and need some helo.

A friend of mine told me to get a Carl or a Purple Cow. This is one I am thinking about:

I have a purple cow - the "12 inch two in one scrapbook combo trimmer"


I don't think it cuts very well at all.

I prefer my "Fiskars Euro paper trimmer"


Oh, I also have a provo craft one, "Zision 12" swing arm" this cuts horribly - stay away from this one!


I don't have any personal experience with carl, but have heard that they are good cutters. Your best bet is to look at the reviews made by people who have used the models you are looking at.

Frankly, I don't think any cutters work as well as an Exacto knife, steel ruler, and cutting mat. This is because there is always the chance (or likelihood) of not getting an exact measure, depending on the cutter. The knife is very precise. And of course, keep the blade replaced often to keep it sharp--that's really the key. If you get a rotary cutter, you still need the steel ruler (get the 18-inch size) and cutting mat to ensure straight lines, and you need to keep that blade sharp, too.

love my Fiskers paper cutters, but I use two -one for photos which tend to dull the blade and another for delicate paper (like the kind that comes in books of paper) because a dull blade makes it ragged. Or you can just change the blades more frequently than I do or change the blade between cutting photos and thin paper.

Seems like we all use different tools!
I love my rotary cutter and prefer to use it to trim anything, fabric, paper, photos. I am much better with the rotary cutter and my 36" ruler and self healing mat than any other tool. Ofcourse, I have had lots of practice cutting fabric, so it isn't intimidating to me.

Every paper cutting device I have tried, leaves me with straight, but crooked lines. I can't seem to line anything up. I do better with scissors and a penciled in line, than I do with paper trimmers.

I love my Fiskars rotary cutter because it doesn't cut "off square" like some of the other smaller *knife* cutters which can wobble half way through the cut. I only use the smaller knife cutter as a portable unit as the rotary on is too big to pack around. The rotary has interchangeable blades as well so you can cut patterns or can score paper - useful for cards. There are many makes on the market but I think Fiskars has a good name and I haven't had a problem with mine yet.. Oh.. another thing.. the rubber bar beneath the blade can be rotated as it wears a groove and eventually you can get another one to replace it. I've had mine for 4 years now and I use it A LOT and I'm still on the first side and first blade. It's a very well made product. Looks like K-Mart carries the line too.. do a search on the net for it :) I got mine at Michael's.
