I need some retouching HELP!!!!

OM Goodness! I have been asked by a firend to put together a SB for her parent's 65th anniversary. I am retouching the photos pretty well, so far. However... I now have to deal with these problem pics.

Maybe try blending it into a background and do some journaling on the side?

Hi! I just posted a comment in the gallery - here's what I'd try - I'm not sure what program you're using, but you can do this in either Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro - I'm not sure if Photoshop Elements lets you adjust levels and curves.

1)Clarify it
2)Adjust the levels
3)Play with curves to try and bring her face out

I think you should be able to salvage the overall feel of the picture and a lot of the detail, but her face might be difficult to pull out. And you may get better results if you convert it to black and white.

is that tobacco harvesting?
Do you have a higher res file to work with?
I use photoshop. So I would duplicate layer, set the blend mode to multiply, duplicate the multiply layer (so there's 2 set to multuply).
Flatten layers.
using curvers set the brightest part as the white point and the darkest as the black point.
If you want more contrast duplicate the layer again and blend as softlight.
then use a healing brush to fix up the spots.

I am working with PSE 5. I haven't seen anything on curves in there. but I will look! Thanks ladies! Keep em comming!
