Where did everyone go? Did we lose everyone in the switch over????? I know I just happened on this new place to do the Mystery Layout - I guess I didn't read your message good enough to know where it was being switched to - so maybe everyone else is lost and can't find us here.

Hi Jan,

I was away from the PC almost everyday I thought by now Veronica would have posted, Would you like to post one? I left a link to this thread in the 1st game but probably we were all waiting for Veronica.

If you want to post feel free. I'm so anxious to see all the new places that are going to be posted.

If you can't post now please let me know, I'm just finishing supper and will have a new one in a while.

Good guess Anita, I was going to say that also.

Sorry about that Maria. I'm just now seeing your post to me. I'm glad you started the game again.

It's the Royal Observatory in Greenwich. So when Maria checks back I'd say one of you ladies gets to do the next layout.

Boy, you gals are good at this. I had no clue on this one!

Jan Merkley
09-14-2008, 12:47 AM
LOL Not as good as you are thinking. If someone hadn't mentioned time lines and Greenwich, I wouldn't have known what to look for!

Maria
09-14-2008, 01:02 AM
The right answer is Royal Observatory in Greenwich, but i think I'll have to accept Anita's answer as she mentioned the time line. If it was only greenwich it would be wrong, now Anita it's your turn now. The only clue was in the tittle, lol

Is anyone playing or did I make this too hard? do you need a hint? the elevation could be one....oh, and make sure you bring plenty of food and snacks if you get snowed in! You wouldn't want history to repeat itself!

Donner Pass

BNGood....yup, Jan got it first though...

it's really a pretty spot.... my aunt and uncle have a vacation home nearby in Truckee...with lake access...the water is melted snow...very clear and pretty but very COLD!!!

this trip though we were on our way from Sacramento to visit my cousin in Reno...the kids all stayed at my cousin's house and played and my Mom, Uncle and I hit the casino for the afternoon!

Jan Merkley
09-15-2008, 01:35 PM
I got it!! We have driven over Donner Pass many times in my childhood. Every time we went from our home in Pacifica to go see family in Utah. I can remember stopping for breakfast somewhere around Truckee one time. A picnic breakfast in a park like area. It was sooooo cold. But was fun.

Okay. I'll get a layout done. Have to think of one first. Be back as soon as I can.

Okay! Here is my Mystery Place Layout. My parents gave my sisters and I a Sisters Reunion for Christmas in 1994. My husband was still recovering from his heart surgery so he took a break from work and went with us. This is one of our Church History sites that we visited while we were on the trip.

oh, I know where this is.. but I'll give others a chance to play! great layout!

and cool...you lived in Pacifica? when? my Uncle (the one in the Donner Pass layout) lived there from 1965 to 1975-ish......too foggy and cold....but you could see Farallon Island from his front window on the rare clear days.....(my family is originally from San Francisco...well, originally from Eastern Europe, then Germany..then they came to San Francisco in 1955) most of my relatives are in California...except my immediate family...they got smart and headed to Florida :)

Jan Merkley
09-15-2008, 10:55 PM
Wow. Small world! I lived in Pacifica from about 1951 til 1960 or so. We really loved it there. Those were my childhood years. It was a good place to have them.

I'm surprised no one else has tried to guess where my layout is of. Hopefully someone will soon. It's a beautiful place. In fact, this is the place you want to go if you'd like to have a great panoramic view of the Valley below. It's on the east side of the Valley and I mean there is nothing obstructing your view. You can see, literally, the whole Valley.

Jan Merkley
09-16-2008, 07:56 PM
Anita, it doesn't look like anyone is playing along right now. Go ahead and guess if you want to.

09-16-2008, 08:19 PM
Well, I would play if I knew where this was. I have no idea!
You ladies are so much better at this than I am
my landmarks these days are "play area, bathroom, and drive thru"

anitastreet
09-16-2008, 08:34 PM
Liz..LOL.. I know those days...I love to travel...and often do it vicariously online :)

okay.. since no one seems to be playing I'll guess.... you gave a big hint with you post about driving over Donner Pass from Pacifica to family in Utah.....so I figured this was in Utah...This Is The Place Heritage Park, Salt Lake City..... and I beleive the Donner Party passed through there (EmigrationCanyon) on their ill fated journey west....

I won't be able to get a layout done quickly though.. I'm off to bed in a bit and Wednesday is my day in Lizzie's kindergarten class (I need my energy!!)....

so if anyone wants to try their hand and do a layout in the meantime..please do so..this is a fun game...lets see more people play!!! you can make it as easy as you want....hey, I was about to scrap a picture of the Golden Gate bridge next....it's in my virtual stack of stuff to scrap!......

Jan Merkley
09-16-2008, 09:16 PM
Been there, done that, Liz! I take it you have a younger family than mine is at the moment. But I do remember those days!!

And you are right, Anita. It's the "This is the Place" monument. My sisters and I, and my husband, daughter and I are standing at the smaller monument where the actual spot really was. It's a little ways from the bigger monument. And it's in a perfect place to see the whole Salt Lake Valley. A very beautiful spot.

It was very cold and breezy the day we were there. Just a very small taste of what the pioneers felt when they arrived on that spot.

Never heard of this momument, but I like the name! This is the place!

I have a new one for you:

This is really pretty. Did you actually get to go there and see it? I think it's interesting how they use the arches in a lot of their architecture.

Yes, It's gorgeous.
I walked from the left bank to the right, over the bridge (and back) and made these pictures.
It's in Europe. :goodluck:

(layout is by my daughter, I only added the tape. So if you anyone wants to find out, it's on the net somewhere!)

Is it the Pont du Gard? or the Aqueduct?

anitastreet
09-24-2008, 12:29 PM
oh thank you so much Diane for posting a layout! yes, I was thinking Aquaduct too......

hope to get more people playing. this has been fun..there are so many interesting places out there...some obscure, some famous....I really think this challenge could go on and on!

Here it is:
http://www.godigitalscrapbooking.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=39231&nocache=1

I'm linking it this time, because it's way to big to post here and when I try to make images with writing smaller it get's distorted. If someone can get it to look right smaller, please feel free to do so.

Every couple of posts that I'm awake for I'll post a hint.

oh, I think I know.. I think it's something very famous seen in the sky .. but right now I'm off to the doctor..then off to lunch with a friend...(a real grown up lunch date.. no kids!!!) then we're supposed to get this Nor'easter/subtropical/whatever storm that's building off the Carolina coast tonight and tomorrow.... I'm so strapped for time... I really don't want to guess right now because I don't have time for a layout..

I shouldn't even be here now....

someone else...think sky (I think!)

I also have a really good idea what this is but I'm off to work and won't be home for 12 hours ... I don't want to hold up the game by guessing. Will check back this evening.

I will not be on much today, as my DH had surgery this morning and I just came home to put the dog out and grab a quick bite to eat and heading back to the hospital. (He is doing well, thank God!) I did this lo yesterday after I made my guess in case I was right, lol.

I'll check by later this evening to see if anyone guessed it.

Ok I had to look up where the worlds biggest wind gust was and found out it was the summit of Mount Washington at the Mount Washingtom Observatory. It was recorded in 1934.

Yippee! You got it! We lived in NH for 6 years and absolutely loved going to the White Mountains and the Observatory. The fall is the most beautiful place on earth there, but the winters are horrendous.

Your turn to post a mystery lo.
